“Poverty is the greatest barrier for education.”
This simple truth drives countless young people—especially girls—out of opportunity before they ever get the chance to discover their potential. At Mentessa, we believe that access to learning, mentorship, and community should never depend on socioeconomic background. That’s why we are proud to support the social project “Coding for Independence” by Visions for Children e.V. and Learning Lions.
Led by Hila Safi and Julia Steffener—both Female Tech Leaders and trainees at Siemens—the initiative empowers underprivileged minorities with education in IT and digital skills. Their mission: to help young women build confidence, develop technical expertise, and improve their chances in the job market.
Empowering Girls Through Mentoring, Matching, and Community
As part of our Mentessa for Good program, we are contributing to the project by providing a community platform that enables:

seamless matching between mentors and mentees

structured mentoring sessions

ongoing support and guidance across borders

a safe place for connection, growth, and encouragement
Through the platform, Kenyan female students in the program can connect with mentors who support them in developing essential IT and programming skills—skills that open doors to independence, confidence, and meaningful career paths.
Why This Initiative Matters
The digital divide remains one of the most pressing challenges in global education. In many areas, young girls with strong talent and big ambitions simply lack the tools to learn. “Coding for Independence” aims to break this cycle by fostering education, empowerment, and equal opportunities.
To continue expanding the program, the organizers are currently raising funds to purchase laptops for schools in Uganda so they can offer IT and programming courses.
